Designer/artist Ryan McGinness toys, with the iconography of Philadelphia symbolism and history in order to tell the tale behind The Philadelphia Experiment. Code-named Project Rainbow, the experiment, based out of Philly's Naval Yard during WWII, rendered a combat destroyer invisible to enemy detection. Rumor had it that though PE was successful, it also made that ship disappear, turning sailors into madmen, ghosts or even ship parts. McGinness' exhibit and book (on Gingko Press) maintain a critical, militaristic look at a democracy's warmongering, with an eye on quantum-mechanics processing (IBM's teleportation experiments) and the existences of parallel universes. McGinness will sign copies of his book at the opening reception and returns in November for the launch of his Bozart-produced Buckyball, a soccer ball based on Buckminster Fuller's geodesic domes.
