The original NASA insignia is one of the most powerfulsymbols in the world. A bold, patriotic red chevron wingpiercing a blue sphere, representing a planet, with whitestars, and an orbiting spacecraft. Today, we know it as 'themeatball.' However, with 1970's technology, it was a difficulticon to reproduce, print, and many people considered ita complicated metaphor in what was considered, then, amodern aerospace era.Enter a cleaner, sleeker design created by the firmof Danne & Blackburn in 1975. The world knew it as theworm it featured a simple red unique type style of the wordNASA. However, in 1992, the 1970s brand was retired -except on clothing and other souvenir items - in favour of theoriginal late 1950s graphic.Until today. The worm is back and the unfinished finalchapter of the book will showcase it's return and the retro,modern design of the agency's logo will help capture theexcitement of a new, modern era of human spaceflight tothe International Space Station, scheduled for May 2020.
