In recent years, felt the oldest fabric known to humanity has found new application in product design, fashion, architecture and home furnishings. The attentions of artists, and innovations in felt production during the 1990s, have triggered a resurgence of interest in the fabric. Published in conjunction with a major exhibition at the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Craft & Design, 'Fashioning Felt' presents numerous groundbreaking designs for felt, from haute couture to cinema architecture, plus essays and comment on the material's important history in the field of design and manufacture. With contributions by Claudy Jongstra, Hut Up, Christine Birkle, Tord Boontje, Jean Nouvel and many more.
