The third volume in the gorgeous series of Kienbaum Artists' Books contains 24 Working Drawings by the important New York-based abstract painter David Reed. A window on the process Reed uses to create his large-format paintings, this oversized, full-color volume shows diary-like pages that include the artist's color charts, trains of thought and decision-making, as recorded over a number of years. These unusual works began with a conversation between Reed and the influential contemporary art collectors Dorothy and Herbert Vogel, in which they asked Reed specifically for drawings and he shared these pieces. The book includes a transcript of a recent conversation between Reed and the Vogels, giving priceless insight into his process of making art.
