Stephan von Huene (*1932 2000) became known around the world mainly for his sound sculptures. From these beginnings in the 1960s, however, he developed a rich, multilayered body of drawings well into the late 1990s. This publication examines in detail the artist's sketches, autonomous drawings, prints, collages, and Mind Maps, interpreting the different functions and contexts of the works on paper. It explains the influences of European and American art and culture on von Huene's work, and demonstrates how essential his works on paper were for the conception and design of his sound sculptures. The texts gathered here reflect the thought structure and work methods of an artist who, as far as his work was concerned, was also a scientist.
