Paul Pope is a tricky character. Firstly, he falls into the category of what is commonly known as "Manga influenced." Pope studied in Japan, looking at Manga as an art form, analyzing it, taking all of it in. Heavy Liquid reeks of everything that makes Manga such an interesting art form, mixed with the juicy, gorgeous colours and ink lines that can make the American medium just as intriguing. Pope's story and art mesh incredibly well, it would seem weird him working with another writer. The way which Pope draws buildings, and the way he presents this on the page, looks like an Otomo (Akira) piece, or an influence of. Pope creates his own world with Heavy Liquid and is continuing that universe in his new series 100%.
